Parmi ces diff\u00e9rentes conditions, l\u2019humidit\u00e9 et la pr\u00e9sence de dioxyde de carbone (dont les gaz d\u2019\u00e9chappement constituent l\u2019une des sources importantes) sont les \u00e9l\u00e9ments qui favorisent, ensemble, le d\u00e9veloppement d\u2019un ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne que l\u2019on appelle la carbonatation. Cette carbonatation impacte les caract\u00e9ristiques des \u00e9l\u00e9ments en b\u00e9ton avec, pour cons\u00e9quence, une d\u00e9gradation des structures.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c9de72b elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"c9de72b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><strong>La carbonatation. En fait, le dioxyde de carbone, lorsqu\u2019il est en forte concentration dans une atmosph\u00e8re humide, p\u00e9n\u00e8tre dans les pores du b\u00e9ton et entre en r\u00e9action avec l\u2019hydroxyde de carbone pr\u00e9sent dans le ciment constitutif du b\u00e9ton. Cette r\u00e9action, qui \u00e9volue depuis la surface vers l\u2019int\u00e9rieur d\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ment en b\u00e9ton, induit un changement des propri\u00e9t\u00e9s chimiques du b\u00e9ton\u00a0!<\/p><p>Le b\u00e9ton poss\u00e8de naturellement la capacit\u00e9 de prot\u00e9ger les armatures enrob\u00e9es contre la corrosion. En revanche, lorsqu\u2019il est \u00ab\u00a0carbonat\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb, le b\u00e9ton perd cette capacit\u00e9. Les armatures se retrouvent donc directement expos\u00e9es et \u00ab\u00a0affaiblies\u00a0\u00bb vis-\u00e0-vis de la corrosion. Ainsi, en pr\u00e9sence d\u2019humidit\u00e9 et d\u2019oxyg\u00e8ne, ces armatures corrodent. La cr\u00e9ation d\u2019oxyde de fer (la rouille) engendre une augmentation locale du volume des armatures. Ce gonflement, en exer\u00e7ant des pressions internes, fait \u00e9clater la cro\u00fbte ext\u00e9rieure de l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ment en b\u00e9ton. Par exemple, les ciels de terrasses sont des zones confin\u00e9es dans lesquelles l\u2019absence de circulation d\u2019air favorise une accumulation de dioxyde de carbone tout en maintenant une humidit\u00e9 relative moyenne. Pour les b\u00e9tons courants, la carbonatation est maximale pour une humidit\u00e9 relative de l\u2019ordre de 60 % et presque nulle en atmosph\u00e8re s\u00e8che ou satur\u00e9e en eau. La carbonatation est par cons\u00e9quent plus importante sur les surfaces prot\u00e9g\u00e9es que sur celles directement expos\u00e9es \u00e0 la pluie.<\/p><p>Par extension, on comprend que ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne est susceptible de se d\u00e9velopper sur tout type de structure en b\u00e9ton d\u00e8s que les conditions en termes de CO<sub>2 <\/sub>et d\u2019humidit\u00e9 sont rencontr\u00e9es. Il y a une explication rationnelle et simple \u00e0 comprendre\u00a0!<\/p><p>Lorsque le gonflement de l\u2019armature cr\u00e9e une \u00ab\u00a0\u00e9paufrure\u00a0\u00bb (un \u00e9clat, souvenez-vous), celle-ci met \u00e0 jour de nouvelles surfaces \u00ab\u00a0fraiches\u00a0\u00bb de b\u00e9ton qui sont, \u00e0 leur tour, directement expos\u00e9es aux conditions atmosph\u00e9riques.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9089c45 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9089c45\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Comment agir?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a5acd1b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a5acd1b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Au cours des derni\u00e8res d\u00e9cennies, les ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes de d\u00e9gradation des b\u00e9tons courants ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tudi\u00e9s et sont donc mieux ma\u00eetris\u00e9s. La conception et la construction des nouveaux b\u00e2timents, lorsqu\u2019elles respectent les normes en vigueur et les r\u00e8gles de l\u2019art de b\u00e2tir actuelles, prennent mieux en compte les ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes (connus) qui alt\u00e8rent la durabilit\u00e9 des structures en b\u00e9ton.<\/p><p>Heureusement, il existe \u00e9galement des m\u00e9thodes pr\u00e9ventives et correctives permettant d\u2019agir sur les immeubles existants\u00a0!<\/p><p>Qu\u2019il s\u2019agisse d\u2019un ouvrage neuf ou existant, les principes qui r\u00e9gissent ces m\u00e9thodes de pr\u00e9vention et de correction consistent \u00e0\u00a0jouer sur :<\/p><ul><li>La capacit\u00e9 de p\u00e9n\u00e9tration du CO<sub>2<\/sub> dans la masse du b\u00e9ton,<\/li><li>La distance des armatures, sources potentiel de corrosion, de la surface,<\/li><\/ul><p>Il existe des solutions pour la grande majorit\u00e9 des situations.
